It is with great pleasure and pride that I write this message as the Conference Chair of the National Police Academy International Research Conference (NPAIRC 2026), organized by the National Police Academy in parallel with the commemoration of the 160th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police (1866–2026).
This conference brings together researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers, and professionals from law enforcement, criminal justice, social sciences, forensic sciences, information technology, and related fields to share their experiences and new knowledge in policing and public safety. As Sri Lanka celebrates 160 years of dedicated police service, this inaugural international conference stands as a landmark event showcasing the evolution and future direction of policing in the country.
We are proud to have received a tremendous response, with a large number of abstracts reflecting the high level of interest and scholarly engagement in this important field. Holistic and effective policing requires a multidisciplinary and intersectoral approach involving criminal justice, forensic sciences, technology, community engagement, and strategic management. This conference provides a vital platform for police officers, researchers, academics, and practitioners to come together to share best practices, challenges, and innovative solutions.
The 1st NPAIRC will pave the way for meaningful dialogue, foster international and mutual collaboration and knowledge exchange, enabling us to learn from the experiences of different countries while strengthening our own policing strategies for the future. Pre-conference activities and workshops have already enriched both practitioners and academics, fostering stronger linkages between research and field operations.
I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Organizing Committee, sub-committees, and all stakeholders for their tremendous dedication and hard work. I also gratefully acknowledge and express profound gratitude for the support of our partners and sponsors, who have made this landmark event possible.
I cordially invite national and international participants to actively engage in this vibrant academic and professional experience at the 1st NPAIRC. Let us collectively contribute to advancing professional policing and securing a safer future for our nation.
warm regards,
