The fourth phase of the pre-conference workshop series organized in preparation for the National Police Academy International Research Conference 2026 (NPAIRC 2026) was successfully conducted on 17 June 2026 at the Main Auditorium of the National Police Academy.

This workshop was conducted on the theme of Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, with the participation of police officers attached to Crime Scene Investigation and Crime Records duties. The programme was organized with the objective of enhancing the knowledge and practical understanding of officers in relation to scientific crime scene investigation and forensic evidence interpretation.

The workshop was resourcefully conducted by Senior Professor Dammika Ariyarathna, Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and Director of the Centre for Advanced Research and Forensic Sciences (CARF). During the session, participants were provided with valuable theoretical and practical knowledge on the scientific interpretation of bloodstain patterns, their evidentiary value, and their relevance to criminal investigations.

The programme further emphasized the importance of proper crime scene preservation, accurate documentation, evidence handling, and the application of forensic science in strengthening the quality of criminal investigations. It also created an opportunity for participating officers to improve their understanding of modern investigative techniques and evidence-based policing.

This initiative was conducted as part of a series of pre-conference workshops organized by the National Police Academy in line with NPAIRC 2026, which is scheduled to be held on 31 August and 01 September 2026 under the theme “Transnational Crime and Social Protection: Integrated Responses for Regional Security.”

The National Police Academy continues to take progressive steps to enhance the professional knowledge, investigative capacity, and research-based learning culture of police officers through academic and practical training programmes conducted in collaboration with subject experts and academic institutions.
